Internships

Bioversity’s internship programme has three major objectives:

  • to offer young graduate or undergraduate students an opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in their field of specialization;
  • to promote a better understanding of Bioversity and the CGIAR system; and
  • to provide groups at headquarters and in the regions with the assistance of outstanding young students specializing in fields relevant to Bioversity’s activities.

How to apply for an internship

General conditions
Applicants for internships must be currently enrolled in a university or graduate school and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies, or alternatively, have completed their university studies within the past six months.

Interns will not be eligible for employment as regular staff members during the internship or for a period of six months following the expiration of their internship.

Normally, interns will be employed for a maximum period of up to one year, with a possible extension for a further period of up to six months.  They may be paid a modest stipend, to assist them to cover their essential maintenance during the time of their internship.

Interns will be granted two days of vacation leave per completed month of service, and medical insurance during the period of the internship will be covered by Bioversity unless the intern is otherwise adequately insured.

Advertised opportunities
Bioversity will advertise current internship opportunities which have been requested by work areas within Bioversity.  If you are applying for an advertised vacancy please make reference to the specific vacancy in your covering letter.

There are no advertised opportunities available at present.

Open applications
Open applications that are not in connection with an advertised vacancy will be considered should an opportunity arise in the applicant’s area of interest.

Please ensure that you indicate in the subject line of your email if you are applying for a specific vacancy or for general consideration for an internship.
