Experts call for action to address the loss of knowledge about plants
Concerned by the alarming loss of plant species, on 1-2 May international experts met in St Louis, USA, calling for a concerted worldwide effort to address the loss of essential knowledge about plants and their uses, especially at the level of local communities.

Evaluating the impact of the Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship Programme
The goal of the Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship Programme is to encourage the conservation and use of plant genetic resources by awarding Fellowships to outstanding young scientists from developing countries. This impact assessment brief evaluates if the Programme has met its goals of contributing to the scientific capacity of the Fellows and their home institutes, and of fostering the conservation and use of plant genetic resources.

Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship 2013 application deadline has been extended until 18 November 2012. The research Marius carried out during his fellowship involved collecting information about traditional knowledge and use of the species, its genetic diversity, as well as its market value and landscape needs.
