Training materials

Bioversity International, together with partners, produces training and self-learning materials on selected topics on the use and conservation of agricultural and forest biodiversity for a variety of audiences including researchers, technicians, university lecturers and policymakers.

Many of the training packages include lecture support notes, exercises, notes for trainers, further reading, references, links and slides. Some materials are available in different languages.

A training module for the international course on the management and utilization of field genebanks and in vitro collections (2011) equips lecturers, practicum instructors, and technical staff who maintain germplasm collections with the latest knowledge and best practices. Law and Policy of Relevance to the Management of Plant Genetic Resources (2005) introduces international legal and policy instruments relevant to professionals who manage, conserve and use plant genetic resources for food and agriculture or have policy-making responsibilities. Training manual on spatial analysis of plant diversity and distribution intended for scientists and students who work with biodiversity data and are interested in developing skills to conduct spatial analysis based on (free) GIS applications with a focus on diversity and ecological analyses. Although this training focuses on plant diversity, many of the types of analyses described can also be applied for other organisms such as animals and fungi. Available in English,  Spanish and French.
