Assessing the impact of our research is an essential part of Bioversity's work. It ensures we are delivering on our committments and enables us to plan our future research effectively. It also allows us to engage and inform development agencies and policymakers, and be accountable to our donors and partners.

The very nature of Bioversity’s research mandate, the conservation and use of agricultural biodiversity to improve people's lives, creates complex operational challenges as well as scientific and technical ones for impact assessment. Results can be indirect and intangible while apppointing credit can be difficult in the context of contributions made by our partners.

Bioversity's assessment system takes these complexities into account by placing strong emphasis on the identification and development of impact pathways. These pathways link the research process with any measurable change created by the generation, dissemination and uptake of any outputs from the research. They also help the scientist to plan ahead for likely changes generated by the research that will subsequently create measurable impact.
