Using Neglected and Underutilized Species to empower women in Bolivia and India
Bioversity International's work on Neglected and Underutilized Species (NUS) is focused on understanding their potential as a development tool to help poor rural communities. NUS refers to species that are outside the mainstream of agricultural research and development yet are often more nutritious and resilient than modern staples such as rice or maize.
In this short video, Bioversity senior scientist Stefano Padulosi, talks about how an IFAD supported Bioversity project in India and Bolivia, is encouraging women to reintroduce these traditional crops to family diets with the help of modern mechanical processing equipment.
