Run for Food will take place in Rome to celebrate World Food Day on October 16th  [2]

World Food Day is a global event organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

In line with this year’s theme, ‘Food Prices – from crisis to stability’, World Food Day 2011 will focus on ways to mitigate the impact of food prices on the most vulnerable people. Food prices represent a major threat to food security in developing countries and according to the World Bank in 2010-2011, rising food prices pushed nearly 70 million into extreme poverty.

Event preparations are well underway, including Rome’s 10k mini-marathon Run for Food which will take place on October 16th. This annual event is organized by the Rome based food agencies (FAO  [3], International Fund for Agricultural Development  [4], World Food Programme  [5] and Bioversity) to raise money for Telefood  [6] - a FAO programme to finance small, self-contained agriculture, livestock and fisheries projects that help poor families produce more food.
