Descriptor Lists, such as the one for wild and cultivated rice, help standardise crop information.
Effective sharing of information about plant genetic resources depends on everyone using the same 'dictionary'.
Descriptor lists [2] published by Bioversity and its partners, provide this common language, standardising the way plant resources are documented and enabling us to share the information more easily.
A new impact assessment study looks at ways in descriptor lists have contributed to the development of genebank databases and increased efficiency in collection management and data exchange.
