CGIAR Research Programs

Bioversity International is a member of the CGIAR consortium. CGIAR is a global research partnership for a food secure future which includes 15 international research centres.

As part of its reorganization, CGIAR has adopted a new vision - to reduce poverty and hunger, improve human health and nutrition, and enhance the sustainable management of natural resources in the developing world. This vision will be delivered through four strategic system outcomes:

  • Reduce rural poverty
  • Improve food security
  • Improve nutrition and health
  • Sustainably manage natural resources

The 15 CGIAR Research Programs are the main mechanism for delivering the vision. These programs will address today’s most pressing agricultural research for development challenges, and each one is built on three core principles:

  • Impact on the system-level outcomes
  • Integration across the CGIAR core competencies
  • Partnerships along the impact pathways
