Research Fellowships
Bioversity International offers individual training for students and working professionals from both developed and developing countries.
The aim is to:
- strengthen capacity to conserve and make effective and sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity
- provide mentoring and experience in an international agriculture research environment
- give promising young scientists an opportunity to conduct research on topics of priority to agrobiodiversity and to publish their results
Bioversity offers Research Fellowships that target young scientists from developing countries and provide sponsorship to conduct research on issues relating to plant and forestry genetic resources. Eligibility and conditions for fellowships vary according to the rules for each one.
Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship
The aim of the Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship Fund is to encourage the conservation and use of plant genetic resources by enabling outstanding young scientists from developing countries to carry out relevant, innovative research outside their own countries for a period of up to one year. Two fellowships are awarded annually.

Abdou-Salam Ouédraogo Fellowship
Bioversity's Abdou-Salam Ouédraogo Fellowship offers support for research on conservation and use of forest genetic resources. It links up young African scientists with international research institutions in forestry and natural resources management.

Other Competitive Grant Schemes
Research staff at Bioversity also facilitate partner applications and co-supervise research under several competitive research grant schemes. Alumni of these fellowship programmes come from around the world and work on key issues in agricultural biodiversity management.
