Caicedo, Carolina Alcázar

Carolina focuses on the conservation and use of forest genetic resources through spatial analysis, niche modeling and genetic diversity analyses. Among other activities in forest genetic resources, she is involved in the MAPFORGEN project — a cross-country platform for promoting, sharing and use of information about 100 woody plant species of socio-economic importance for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Carolina is part of the steering committee of LAFORGEN (Latin American Forest Genetic Resources Network). She has participated as trainer in courses based on materials developed by Bioversity, particularly a GIS training course for spatial analyses of plant diversity as a tool for supporting plant genetic diversity conservation.

Carolina is a Colombian national and before joining Bioversity she worked at the Bogotá Botanical Garden 'Jose Celestino Mutis' (on high Andean tree species), CORPOICA (Biodiversity in silvopastoril systems), the Alexander Von Humboldt Institute (on the national strategy for plant conservation, threatened tree species management and functional diversity for conservation planning), and Conservation International (on functional plant diversity in dry forests).
