Castro-Salazar, René

Mr René Castro-Salazar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de Costa Rica, a Master of Public Administration degree and Doctor of Design degree both awarded by Harvard University. He held ministerial positions in Costa Rica as Minister of National Resources, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Environment, Energy between 1994 and 2014. Mr Castro-Salazar was appointed Assistant Director-General for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), Forestry Department, and in December 2016 he was appointed Assistant Director-General for the new Climate, Biodiversity, Land and Water department.
