Fongar, Andrea

Associate Scientist, Nutrition

Andrea is a Center for International Migration and Development (CIM) Integrate Expert for nutrition. She joined the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and the team of the Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems Initiative in Kampala Uganda as Associate Scientist in Nutrition in April 2019.

She works in close collaboration with the Wageningen University and Research to implement the LEAP-AGRI funded project NOURICITY with the objective to initiate and implement partnership agreements between stakeholders of the urban food system on healthier food choices. The project is explored in Accra (Ghana), Cape Town (South Africa) and Kampala (Uganda). The project is funded by the EU and national donors. For the Kampala case, the project is executed by Wageningen Economic Research, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and BoP innovation centres.

Before joining Bioversity International, Andrea worked as a Data Consultant for the German Development Institute (DIE), and as a Research Associate at the Project “Agriculture and Dietary Diversity in Africa – ADDA”. At the same time, she was a member of the interdisciplinary research training group ‘GlobalFood’ of the University of Goettingen, where she conducted data collections in Kenya and established the nutrition education component of the project. Prior, she worked as a Project Assistant and Consultant for the German Welthungerhilfe in Sierra Leone.
