Bioversity International: research for development in agricultural and tree biodiversity

Gupta, Arnab

Scientist for Agroecology and Seed Systems

Arnab joined Bioversity International in March 2014 as a Special Project Scientist for Agroecology and Seed Systems.

Devoting his time initially to the 'Seeds for Needs' initiative in the Indo-Gangetic plains of India, he was instrumental in training farmers for quality seed production and ways to store seeds safer for longer periods of time under Indian rural conditions.

Slowly his work became more focused towards community seedbanks and use of novel technologies for seed safekeeping in the community seed banks. The ‘dry storage’ concept for seed storage is his main thrust area and implementation of this technology in Community Seed Banks is now his main area of operation.

Previously, Arnab Gupta worked as a lead researcher for India in the field of Seed Enhancements and seed value addition research and well exposed to the private sector seed industry of India.
