An Italian national, Lorenzo joined Bioversity International in 1996 as part of the Regional Office for Europe. Since then he has directed the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR) Secretariat, coordinating this collaborative programme among European countries. ECPGR aims to ensure the long-term conservation and facilitating the increased utilization of plant genetic resources in Europe.
