Initiative Manager – Effective genetic resources conservation and use

Allison Grove Smith is the Manager of the Effective Genetic Resources Conservation and Use Initiative at Bioversity International, an international research for development organization that is a CGIAR Research Centre.

As Initiative Manager, Allison is responsible for developing and ensuring the outcome-oriented implementation of the research conducted under this Initiative.

Allison brings close to 20 years of experience to this role, both in CGIAR and in the international NGO spheres. Coupling her strong background in leading multi-locational, multi-disciplinary teams, managing both HQ and field operations, and project management across a range of sectors with extensive partnership development experiences, allows Allison to complement the scientific research that is being implemented.

Allison has provided a leadership role in strategic development efforts, developed and led many successful projects and proposals, as well as establishing systems, quality assurance protocols, monitoring and evaluation plans and tools, and operating procedures that lend to better and more impactful implementation of research and development activities.

Allison is a US and UK national who has lived and worked in Armenia, Botswana, Kosovo, Senegal and Serbia and performed short missions to throughout Middle East/North Africa, the Balkan and South Caucasus.
