In partnership with the Satoyama Initiative, Bioversity International has developed a toolkit to help researchers, development practitioners and communities assess the landscapes they live in, understand the resilience of their system, and develop resilience-strengthening strategies. Genebank to genebank: technical guidelines for the safe movement of cacao
Exchanging cacao germplasm is essential for research, plant breeding and agricultural development, but brings with it the risk of pest and disease transfer. The CacaoNet Technical Guidelines for the Safe Movement of Cacao Germplasm provide information on the precautions and quarantine measures to minimize the risk of pest and disease spread when cacao genetic resources are being moved. Action needed to safeguard genetic diversity of the world's forests
The State of the World's Forest Genetic Resources report is a major step in building the knowledge base required for global action towards better conservation and sustainable management of the planet's precious forest genetic resources. Bioversity International worked closely with FAO and other partners to prepare this report which compiles information on forest genetic resources in 86 countries. Read more
Nobel laureate calls for urgent action to implement the Plant Treaty
Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz and the editors of Intellectual Property Rights said that it is urgent that the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture is fully implemented, endorsing the analysis of Bioversity International scientist Michael Halewood, in his chapter ‘International efforts to pool and conserve crop genetic resources in times of radical legal change’.
