Products Darwin Initiative Project Year 3
As one of the main outcomes of the project, national partners developed a report summarizing the law instruments and systems that have contributed to put in place in each country throughout the implementation of this project for the mutual implementation of the ITPGRFA and the Nagoya Protcol. The two reports are available below.
- Guide simplifié de accès aux ressources génétiques - Madagascar, 2018
- Document synthèse sur l'accès aux ressources génétiques - Benin, 2018
During Year 3, national partners continued their efforts initiated in year 2, to support the four communities to develop Biocultural Community Protocols (BCPs) and Community Biodiversity Registers (CBRs). They organized a number of workshops to train communities to collect information and to support actors who could thereafter facilitate/contribute to the process of developing and getting the BCPs recognized at the community, regional and national levels. Both community instruments were finalized in the four communities by the end of the project. The BCPs of the four communities are available below.
- Biocultural Community Protocols of the two communities from Madagascar - finalized in December 2017
- Biocultural Community Protocols of the two communities from Benin - finalized in
Additionally, with the project’s support, and beyond the project approved proposal, the national team from Benin hired a consultant to conduct a report on access to PGRFA in Benin (at national and community level). In particular, the study is focused on i) developing a synthesis of the strengths and weaknesses of the mechanisms for access to PGRFA by stakeholders under the international and national access and benefit-sharing framework ii) summarizing the practical mechanisms that should be followed in Benin for the application and transfer of PGRFA in and from Benin, and iii) design the templates of the application forms to be used by stakeholders at each level. Early drafts of the report, entitled ‘Documentation du mécanisme d’accès aux Ressources Phytogénétiques pour l’Alimentation et l’Agriculture par les Parties prenantes au Bénin’, was shared with the EGC members. The report is available below.
